The Y-Age initiative stems from a reaction to the significant changes society faces now and in the future, with regards to changing demographic and architectural trends. It has been described as the “elderly demographic time bomb”. A multi-disciplinary approach is crucial in approaching sustainable, integrative solutions beyond the stereotypical, predicted issues. One significant factor in allowing a society to age gracefully will be the introduction of technology and various innovative design products which will act as independence-enhancing technologies.
The key issues to target to ensure a healthier, safer and more self-sufficient living environment for the shifting demographic are psychological, financial, social and physiological. This initiative aims to approach the multifaceted issue by creating channels to approach universal issues with ageing.
